Demand for private electric vehicle charging stations has risen sharply in Denmark, with energy providers reporting a 15% increase in sales compared to early 2026, according to national broadcaster DR.
OK, one of Denmark’s largest energy companies, attributes the growth to broader adoption of electric cars and volatility in fuel prices. Kenneth Korsgaard, OK’s mobility director, said the company has installed thousands of home chargers and expects demand to remain strong in the coming months.
“We’ve seen massive growth in electric vehicles on the roads, and most of those owners also want a home charging solution,” Korsgaard told DR, adding that rising gasoline prices since the Middle East conflict began in late February have further accelerated interest.
Søren Orthmann, a delivery driver in Dalmose, recently purchased a used electric car with a 300-kilometer range and installed a home charger to avoid frequent public charging trips. “With my usage, I’d need to charge two or three times a week—it’s just too much hassle without one,” he said.
Orthmann cited fuel costs as the deciding factor in switching from diesel. “When filling up my diesel car cost over 800 kroner, that was the push I needed,” he said.
Nordlys, another major energy and telecom provider, confirmed the trend. Ellen Trolle, director of Nordlys’ charging business, noted a clear uptick in demand since March, building on already strong growth in recent years.
