The Faroese government will spend 33.3 million krona to complete the first phase of a supported housing complex in Miðvágur for seven residents with autism and complex needs, public broadcaster KVF reports.

Margit Stórá, minister for social affairs and housing, presented the funding proposal to parliament on Saturday. The finance committee has approved the allocation, with 12.4 million krona already committed and an additional 20.9 million krona now authorised.

The first phase involves renovating and adapting an existing building in Miðvágur to serve as a shared home for seven individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism. Construction is expected to finish by 2029.

A second phase, not yet funded, would add a new adjacent building to house 12 residents with psychiatric and social challenges, replacing older facilities in Sandavágur and Sørvágur. Parliament will revisit the proposal on Tuesday.
