Jens Kampmann, Denmark’s first environment minister, dies at 89
Jens Kampmann, widely regarded as Denmark’s first environment minister, has died at the age of 89, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
His son, Nicolai Kampmann, confirmed the death to news agency Ritzau, stating in a Facebook post that his father “passed away peacefully.” He added that Kampmann remained “clear and composed almost until the very end.”
Kampmann, a Social Democrat, served as minister for public works and pollution control from 1971—a role considered the country’s first environmental ministry. He was a member of the Danish parliament, the Folketing, from 1966 to 1978.
He was the son of Viggo Kampmann, who served as Denmark’s prime minister from 1960 to 1962.
