Bakkafrost has deployed a new automated feed barge at its Fuglafjørður salmon farm, equipped with AI-driven systems to improve efficiency and sustainability, Faroese broadcaster KVF reports.

The barge, built by Polish manufacturer GroAqua, has a 700-tonne feed capacity and 18 feeding lines, allowing simultaneous feeding of 18 pens. Its AI technology, developed at GroAqua’s research facility in Kambsdal, Faroe Islands, optimises feed distribution and reduces waste.

Operations will be monitored from Bakkafrost’s feed control centre in Klaksvík. The system is designed to enhance precision, cut environmental impact, and support future land-based power integration for energy savings.

This marks the latest in a series of new feed barges supplied by GroAqua to Bakkafrost in recent years.
