The Ring Road near Skálm has been reopened, albeit with restrictions as the road remains single-lane. Traffic will be managed on-site, starting with vehicles being allowed through from the east for approximately 20 to 30 minutes, followed by access from the west.
Repairs on the Ring Road began this morning after the road was closed since midday yesterday due to a glacial flood from Mýrdalsjökull. The area east of the bridge suffered significant damage, prompting contractors to mobilize equipment last night and work diligently throughout the day. There were concerns regarding the bridge’s stability under the pressure, but fortunately, it remained intact. Full repairs are expected to take several days.
Motorists are urged to show consideration to staff on-site and adhere to signs and instructions.
