The chairman of the Faroe Islands Teachers’ Association (Føroya Lærarafelag) expects a new salary agreement to be in place by the Ólavsøka holiday, according to a report by KVF. Negotiations with the Ministry of Finance began on Thursday, Jacob Eli S. Olsen said.

In February, twelve trade unions reached a collective salary framework agreement with the Ministry of Finance. Several unions were critical of the deal at the time. Olsen was among those who objected, saying he could not accept that those unions had made an agreement that would ultimately affect members of the Teachers’ Association.

Now that direct salary talks have started, Olsen declined to comment further on the February framework deal.
