The University of the Faroe Islands, in collaboration with Statistics Denmark and Aarhus University, has launched the largest study of its kind into the lives of Faroese people living in Denmark, Kringvarp Føroya reported.

The study aims to shed light on why some move to Denmark for education and remain there, while others return to the Faroe Islands. It includes all Faroese who moved to Denmark at least once after 1999 and began vocational or higher education within 12 months of their move.

The research covers individuals who moved to Denmark and started their education before 1 October 2025. Erika Anne Hayfield and Tróndur Møller Sandoy of the University of the Faroe Islands’ Department of History and Social Sciences are leading the project.
