Faroe Islands black halibut landings abroad drop sharply
Black halibut landings abroad by Faroese vessels have fallen sharply this year, with 18,372 tons landed outside the country despite more domestic factories purchasing the fish this spring, according to a report by Høgni Djurhuus of Kringvarp Føroya.
Of the total, 11,700 tons were landed in Norway and just over 6,672 tons in Denmark. Five vessels were involved: Borgarin, Christian í Grótinum, Gøtunes, Høgaberg and Jupiter. Christian í Grótinum made two landings, one in each country.
Last year, 15 vessels landed 100,000 tons of black halibut abroad across 42 landings in Denmark, Ireland, Iceland and Norway. This year there were only six landings.
The exceptional permit that allowed landings abroad expired on 16 June last year. This year, the permit was only valid until 15 May.
