A hiker has sustained burns after stepping into a hot spring in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains. The incident triggered a response from the Icelandic Coast Guard, which is working to transport the injured man via helicopter. The severity of his injuries is currently unknown.
Hreggviður Símonarson from the Coast Guard’s operations division confirmed the situation. Efforts to reach the location have been hampered by poor visibility, making it impossible for the helicopter to land directly where the hiker is located. Search and rescue teams, along with park rangers, are assisting the Coast Guard in this challenging operation.
The helicopter departed at 1:30 PM local time to retrieve the hiker.
