Suspected earthquake shakes Copenhagen metropolitan area
DR reports that a suspected earthquake struck the Copenhagen metropolitan area around 16:15 on Thursday. Tremors were felt in Østerbro, Amager, Søborg, Roskilde, Hellerup and Dragør, according to the Danish public broadcaster.
Copenhagen West Police said they were aware of the incident but could not confirm that an earthquake had occurred. “We do not yet know more than what we have been able to read on the internet — that there was an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 in the area near Solrød Strand,” a duty officer said. The police have received several calls from members of the public.
Google’s estimate placed the magnitude at 4.2 with an epicentre six kilometres from Solrød Strand, according to the report. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre recorded the tremor at magnitude 3.9. Uppsala University, which monitors seismic events, registered a tremor at 16:14 in Region Zealand and described it as an earthquake.
Capital Region Emergency Services wrote on X that people should only call 112 if they have an urgent need for help. “The emergency call centre is currently receiving very many 112 calls about tremors from large parts of Zealand. It is probably an earthquake. We urge people to follow the news. No reports of injuries so far,” the service said.
