Rescue teams from Landsbjörg, stationed at Landmannalaugur, recently assisted a group of tourists whose vehicle became stuck while crossing Jökulgilsþver on the Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri route, just west of Kýlingar. The alarm was raised shortly after noon, and when rescuers from the Ægir team arrived, the tourists had already climbed onto the roof of their car for safety.
Fortunately, the rescue personnel were able to successfully get the vehicle started. Subsequently, both the car and the tourists were transported to the facilities of the Hálendisvakt in Landmannalaugur. This incident underscores the importance of being cautious while navigating the challenging terrains of Iceland’s highlands and emphasizes the readiness of rescue services to respond to emergencies.
