A passenger plane bound for St Petersburg landed at Helsinki-Vantaa overnight, according to the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard.
The aircraft had departed from Egypt. The Coast Guard said the plane landed in Finland because St Petersburg’s airport was closed. The plane was able to continue its journey later that night.
“Passengers and crew did not leave the aircraft,” the Coast Guard wrote on the social media platform X.
Pulkovo International Airport in St Petersburg has been closed several times during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine due to drone threats.
Several aircraft heading to St Petersburg have landed at Helsinki-Vantaa airport during the spring.
