The vessel John Paul DeJoria, operated by Paul Watson and his team, departed this morning from just south of Nuuk, Greenland. According to Vesselfinder, the ship is now heading north.
The John Paul DeJoria was en route to the Pacific Ocean to intercept Japanese whalers. Japan has recently launched a new whaling ship, Kangei Maru, to hunt whales in the North Pacific.
The ship previously docked in Nuuk on July 21 for refueling, at which point Paul Watson was taken into custody. Japan had requested Watson’s extradition back in 2010.
Watson is currently detained in Nuuk, while 25 crew members remain aboard the John Paul DeJoria.
