Seven individuals arrested in Reykjavik for drunk driving and violent incidents

In a night marked by significant incidents of drunk driving, seven individuals were arrested and held in police custody. At least eight drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, police received reports of two assaults and one case of domestic violence.

In Reykjavik, officers responded to a domestic violence report, apprehending a suspect who had fled the scene and was found to be intoxicated. Another incident occurred in Hafnarfjörður, where an employee at a support facility for children with special needs was stabbed in the neck with a pencil by a client. Meanwhile, in Kópavogur, a taxi driver pursued two passengers who refused to pay their fare, one of whom attacked the driver before both fled the scene. This case is currently under investigation.

The police log revealed multiple instances of intoxicated drivers last night. Among these, a driver involved in a traffic accident fled the scene but was quickly located and found to be drunk. In another case in Reykjavik, a drunk driver collided with several parked cars by an apartment building, causing damage to both vehicles and the exterior wall of the building. Additionally, a sleeping driver was discovered in a running vehicle on Miklubraut; police had to shake the car to wake the individual. Two others were stopped in Hafnarfjörður, showing signs of intoxication, with one carrying illicit substances.

At the time of reporting, seven individuals remained in custody.
