Finns Party proposes playful motivational signs to encourage exercise in Pori
The Finns Party faction in Pori has submitted a city council initiative to install humorous, locally flavoured signs along popular outdoor routes to boost physical activity among residents, Yle Satakunta reports.
Under the proposal, around 20 temporary signs would be placed in areas like Yyteri beach and Kirjuriluoto outdoor trails for a three-month trial period. Example slogans include playful phrases such as “This walk won’t kill you”, “Come on now, you’re moving!”, and “A true Pori local can handle one more hill.”
The initiative highlights the city’s above-average obesity rates while stressing that the campaign would maintain “good taste” and avoid offence. “The goal is to create a sense of community and encouraging humour that fits Pori’s identity,” the faction stated, adding that feedback from residents and social media engagement would gauge the project’s impact on exercise habits.
Councillor Matti Välimäki (Finns Party), the motion’s primary sponsor, noted during Monday’s council meeting that increased physical activity could also reduce experiences of bullying.
