The newly elected Faroese government has no plans to lift sanctions against two Russian businessmen, despite two parties now in government having previously opposed the measures, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

According to a report by seafood industry publication Intrafish, which contacted the government, the sanctions will remain in place. The administration also stated it has no intention of imposing additional sanctions on Russia.

When asked whether the Faroe Islands’ fisheries agreement with Russia would continue, the government did not respond. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries, which replied to Intrafish via email, declined to provide further comment.

Intrafish has reportedly attempted for weeks to obtain answers from the government on several questions, including the potential financial consequences for the Faroe Islands if the fisheries agreement with Russia is terminated. Another unanswered question concerns the guarantee fund related to the sanctions.
