Every 17 May, Johanne Holmedahl finds herself back in the spotlight as the iconic “Til Dovre faller” music video—Norway’s unofficial Constitution Day anthem—climbs Spotify charts once again, Dagbladet reports.

Holmedahl, now an event manager at Just Cruzin’ Production, first gained recognition at age 12 when she starred in the 2014 video. “I’ve always loved 17 May, so being part of a music video about the Constitution was incredibly exciting,” she told the newspaper. “NRK [Norway’s public broadcaster] took such good care of us kids—it was a fantastic experience.”

The song’s popularity surged after its 2020 Spotify release, and it now reliably tops streaming lists each 17 May. Holmedahl attributes its enduring appeal partly to social media but also to its unique connection to Norway’s national day. “It’s extra special to have this tie to the celebration, especially now when we should appreciate the freedom to gather and wave flags in the streets,” she said.

Though rarely recognized in public today, Holmedahl admits the song remains a staple at her annual champagne breakfast with friends—a tradition she’s kept for a decade. “They know to give me an hour and a glass of bubbles before playing it,” she joked, adding that her three-year-old niece now adores the track. “It feels like my little legacy to her.”

Beyond the music, Holmedahl cherishes the day’s mix of parades, festive crowds, and early-morning celebrations. “17 May is this wonderful chaos—people in their finest clothes, children’s processions, outdoor dining, and champagne at 10 AM. A perfect blend.”
