New translation of the Faroese New Testament released
A new Faroese translation of the New Testament has been published, marking the first direct translation from the original languages since 1937, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The release was celebrated during a service at Vesturkirkjan in Tórshavn on Ascension Day. The translation, completed by former bishop Hans Jacob Joensen, aims to present the text in modern Faroese, according to Bergur Debes Joensen, a priest and chair of the Faroese Bible Society.
“This is a more extensive edition of the New Testament,” Joensen said, expressing hope that the new version will make the text more accessible to contemporary readers.
