Queen Margrethe undergoes routine heart procedure after chest pains
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has undergone a coronary angioplasty—a standard and low-risk procedure—after being hospitalised with chest pains, Danish public broadcaster DR reports.
The procedure, known as balloon dilation, widens a narrowed coronary artery and is performed on roughly 10,000 Danes annually, according to DR’s health correspondent, Peter Qvortrup Geisling. The Danish Royal House stated that the queen is “in good condition” following the operation.
The monarch was admitted to hospital on Thursday after experiencing heart-related discomfort. No further complications have been reported.
