Faroe Islands government requests funding to design new sports academy in Vágur
The Faroese government has asked parliament to allocate 2.6 million krona (DKK) to design a new sports academy in Vágur, with an additional 3.55 million krona proposed in the 2027 budget, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The planned 2,000-square-metre facility will be built on a 4,500-square-metre plot provided by Vágur municipality. The design phase is expected to take one year, beginning in 2027, with an estimated cost of 10.25 million krona.
The government has requested 6.15 million krona from national funds for the project, with the Nordea Foundation expected to cover the remaining costs. Discussions between the sports academy and the foundation regarding financial support are reportedly underway.
The Nordea Foundation typically requires co-funding from public sources for its grants.
