Faroese fishing vessels have been granted a 200-ton quota for Greenland halibut in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) regulatory zone, according to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The allocation applies to the NAFO area, a managed fishing zone in the northwestern Atlantic. Under the terms, vessels targeting other species at Flemish Cap—a key fishing ground within the zone—will be permitted a maximum 5 percent bycatch of halibut once the 200-ton quota is fully utilised. The halibut must be caught using longline gear.
