Multiple traffic accidents reported as sudden snow creates hazardous driving conditions
Police in Norway’s Innlandet region reported several traffic accidents Thursday morning after unexpected snowfall led to slippery roads and challenging driving conditions in highland areas, Dagbladet reports.
Two separate incidents involved vehicles sliding off roads—one along Lillehammerveien in Nordre Land and another in Trysil, where a car overturned. In both cases, the vehicles were equipped with summer tires, according to operations manager Frode Øverås.
“The police are on site, and the roads are covered in snow and slush, making driving conditions difficult,” Øverås told Dagbladet. He added that authorities are coordinating with contractors to clear the roads, noting that the sudden snow likely caught many drivers off guard.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute had issued a snow warning earlier this week for parts of Innlandet and Trøndelag, but Øverås emphasized that drivers bear responsibility for adjusting to hazardous conditions. He advised against traveling in highland areas without winter tires.
“We’ve been in contact with people who had to turn back due to the conditions,” he said.
