Local cyclist calls fatal crash “unfathomably tragic” after rider killed in collision
A 50-year-old cyclist was killed and six others injured in Ytre Enebakk, Akershus, on Tuesday evening when a group ride was struck by two cars during an overtaking manoeuvre, Dagbladet reports. Two drivers have been charged in connection with the incident.
Fredrik Myhre, a marine biologist and avid cyclist who frequently rides the same route, described the crash as “unfathomably tragic.” “You just feel completely empty inside,” he told the newspaper. “Heartbreaking incidents like this hit us all hard.”
The collision occurred on a rural road Myhre knows well, describing it as “periodically poorly visible, with sharp turns, small hills, and scattered vegetation before entering a wooded area.” While he has not experienced serious incidents on that exact stretch, he and a training partner narrowly avoided being hit by a car three weeks ago in a nearby curve.
“My thoughts immediately went to everyone affected—I spent much of yesterday thinking about the cyclists, their families and friends, but also the drivers of the two cars involved,” Myhre said. He urged all road users to prioritise mutual respect, noting that delays for motorists pale in comparison to the potential consequences for cyclists.
Police continue to investigate the crash, which left one cyclist critically injured. A lawyer for one of the charged drivers confirmed to Dagbladet that her client is “struggling greatly” with the aftermath.
