Applications open for Faroe Islands hospital director position
The Faroese national health service is accepting applications for a new hospital director, with the deadline set for May 21, reports public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The successful candidate will serve as director of Sjúkrahúsverkið—the Faroese public hospital system—and as head of the National Hospital in Tórshavn. The five-year contract, renewable for up to three additional years, will oversee a network including the National Hospital, Klaksvík Hospital, Suðuroy Hospital, and the Keypmannahavn patient hotel.
The system manages 169 beds, employs 1,200 full-time staff, and operates on an annual budget of 1.2 billion Danish kroner. It handles 12,000 inpatient admissions, 130,000 outpatient treatments, and 5,000 surgeries yearly, with 1,900 patients referred abroad for care.
Steinar Eirikstoft, the previous director, stepped down on December 1 last year. Per Busk has served as acting director since then. The new appointment will be made as soon as possible after contract negotiations conclude.
