One cyclist killed and six injured after collision with cars in Enebakk
Seven cyclists from the Driv IL sports club were struck by vehicles during an overtaking manoeuvre in Enebakk on Tuesday evening, leaving one dead and six injured, Dagbladet reports.
The club confirmed in a statement that one of its members, a man in his 50s, had died in the crash. “It is with deep sorrow that Driv IL received news of this serious traffic accident,” the statement read. “Our thoughts go to the family, friends, teammates, and all those affected. The club will provide support to those in need in the coming period.”
Police reported the incident at 18:35 local time, involving seven cyclists and two cars. Both drivers—an 18-year-old man and a man in his 40s—have had their licences revoked and face charges. The older driver is accused of negligent homicide, causing significant harm, and violating traffic laws, while the 18-year-old is charged with driving under the influence and traffic violations.
Enebakk mayor Christopher Leiknes described the community as “in shock and grief,” noting the small town’s tight-knit nature. “Many know those involved,” he said. The municipality’s psychosocial crisis team has been assisting affected individuals since Tuesday evening.
A memorial gathering will be held at the clubhouse on Wednesday evening, with crisis support available on-site.
