The Faroese Construction Association has confirmed there is no local interest in owning a planned new hospital hotel in Tórshavn, according to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The association’s assessment states that neither Faroese authorities nor local construction firms are keen on the ownership model proposed. Instead, the Danish Building and Property Agency is set to construct and retain ownership of the facility, with the Faroe Islands leasing the building.

Health Minister Bella Zachariasen has requested 10 million DKK from parliament for the project. If private bids fall short, public funds may cover the cost. The new 150-bed hotel, expected to meet demand until 2050, will replace the current 92-bed facility built in 2012. Construction is estimated to take five to six years, depending on municipal processing in Tórshavn.

A suitable plot near the National Hospital has been identified. The Danish state owns the land, and the Building and Property Agency will oversee construction.
