Fire breaks out in bar at Levi ski resort in Finnish Lapland
A fire broke out early Wednesday morning in a bar located in Sirkka village, Kittilä, home to Finland’s largest winter sports resort Levi, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
Emergency services received an alert just after 12:20 AM local time about a medium-sized building fire on Laaksokuja street. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the blaze had started in a ground-floor restaurant space within a three-storey building. The affected premises house Bar Pois Kotoo and Pizzeria Via Tribunali Levi, both currently listed as closed.
The Lapland Rescue Department contained the fire quickly and inspected the floors above the restaurant for damage. No injuries were reported, though the venue suffered fire and smoke damage.
By 1:30 AM, cleanup operations were still underway, expected to last several more hours. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police have launched an investigation.
