Faroese rescue vessel completes eight-hour tow of disabled fishing boat
A Faroese rescue vessel carried out its longest operation to date on Monday, towing a disabled fishing boat for eight hours after its engine failed west of Suðuroy, reports Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The vessel Rescue Lív responded late Monday to assist the fishing boat, which had suffered mechanical failure. The crew towed the disabled vessel to Vága harbour in an operation lasting eight hours.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Rescue Lív confirmed this was the longest callout in the vessel’s service history. The crew did not return to their home port in Tórshavn until 3 AM Tuesday—14 hours after initially departing from Álakeri.
