Faroese seafarers’ union in deadlock as wage negotiations stall

The Faroese Seafarers’ and Navigators’ Union is in a standstill after wage negotiations broke down two weeks ago between the Employers’ Association and the union, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Strike action has not been ruled out, though Annfinnur Garðalíð, chair of the union, said he remains hopeful that the parties will reach an agreement. Last week, Stefan í Skorini, director of the Faroese Employers’ Association, stated that negotiations had become difficult because the union was consulting internally rather than engaging in direct talks.

Garðalíð acknowledged the criticism but insisted that the union is working toward a solution.
