Police in eastern Uusimaa have launched a criminal investigation into a suspected arson attack after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Vantaa’s Havukoski district on Sunday, reports Finnish broadcaster Yle.

The blaze, reported to emergency services at 11:58 AM, was extinguished within an hour and did not spread beyond the unit of origin, according to Detective Inspector Mari Ajomaa. Multiple police patrols and fire rescue units responded to the scene.

Several residents sustained injuries after jumping from windows to escape the fire, police confirmed. Authorities are now examining the sequence of events through technical investigations and witness interviews, with preliminary findings suggesting the fire was deliberately set.

Investigators have urged anyone who visited the apartment earlier on Sunday to contact police to assist with the inquiry. The case remains in its initial stages.
