Tórshavn chamber choir named best choir at Faroese competition
The Tórshavn chamber choir has been awarded top honours as the best choir at this year’s choral festival in Kambsdalur, Faroe Islands, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The competition, held over the weekend, featured 17 choirs and around 700 singers from across the country. Each choir performed a seven-minute programme showcasing their work from the past year.
A judging panel selected the Tórshavn chamber choir, conducted by Bernharður Wilkinson, as the overall winner. Second place went to the Tarira choir, while Silvitni took third. The audience also voted for their favourite, awarding the prize to the Gøta church youth choir, led by Símun Hammer.
Icelandic conductor Magnus Ragnarsson directed the festival’s large combined choir, which performed at the closing concert.
