Faroese trade union leader calls for renewed oil exploration
A leading Faroese trade unionist has urged authorities to resume oil exploration in the Faroe Islands, arguing it could create jobs and benefit the local economy, Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Jens Meinhard Rasmussen, director of construction firm Skansa and shipping company Smyril Line, said the issue also concerns energy policy and should not be dismissed outright. He stressed that any decision must be made with proper consideration.
Rasmussen, who also represents workers in the oil sector, noted that oil remains a vital resource both as a fuel and as a key industry for employment.
