12-year-old moped rider dies in collision in Juuka

A 12-year-old boy died in a traffic accident in Juuka, eastern Finland, on Saturday evening, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The crash occurred when a van travelling on Nunnanlahdentie road from the direction of Juuka collided with a moped rider emerging from a forest road. The child died at the scene, according to the Eastern Finland Police Department.

The speed limit on the road section is 70 km/h. Traffic on Nunnanlahdentie was temporarily halted following the accident, which took place around 7 p.m.

Police are investigating the incident as a potential violation of traffic safety regulations.
