Faroese trade unionist calls for renewed oil exploration
A leading Faroese trade union representative has urged authorities to resume oil exploration in the Faroe Islands, arguing it would create jobs and benefit the local economy.
Jens Meinhard Rasmussen, director of construction firm Skansa and Smyril Line, told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya that restarting oil searches would be “very active” for workers—both in oil consumption and within the industry itself. He framed the issue as part of broader welfare policy, stating that such a move should not be left to chance but planned responsibly.
Rasmussen did not specify a timeline or method for renewed exploration but emphasized its potential economic impact.
