Faroese trade union leader calls for renewed oil exploration
A leading Faroese trade unionist has urged authorities to resume oil exploration in the Faroe Islands, arguing it would benefit both energy consumers and workers in the sector.
Jens Meinhard Rasmussen, director of Skansa and Smyril Line, told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya that restarting oil searches should be part of a broader energy policy discussion. He stressed that such decisions should not be made unilaterally but through negotiated agreements.
Rasmussen, who also represents workers in the oil industry, highlighted that oil remains a critical resource for many Faroese workers and businesses.
