Faroese environment week concludes with record participation in workshops
The environmental movement has become a mainstream concern in the Faroe Islands, with a surge in public engagement during this year’s Environment Week, according to organisers at Tórshavn Municipality.
What was once dismissed as the domain of “environmentalists” is now widely seen as essential, said Siri Hansen, deputy director of Visit Tórshavn, who coordinated the week’s events. “In the past, people might have mocked environmental advocates, but now most recognise it as a necessity,” Hansen told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The week featured a series of workshops that drew unprecedented interest. Organisers also announced this year’s recipients of environmental grants and awards, though specific winners were not named in the report.
Environment Week (Umhvørvisvikan) is an annual initiative by Tórshavn Municipality to promote sustainability and climate awareness through public events, lectures, and practical workshops.
