Driver killed in illegal overtaking crash on Highway 8 in Siikajoki
A car driver was killed in a three-vehicle collision on Friday after attempting an illegal overtaking manoeuvre on Highway 8 in Siikajoki, northern Finland, reports public broadcaster Yle.
The accident occurred around noon near Revonlahti, on the stretch toward Raahe. According to police, the driver of a northbound passenger car began overtaking a queue of stationary vehicles in a no-overtaking zone. The car collided head-on with an oncoming truck after reaching the front of the line.
The impact forced the truck off the road into a ditch, where it struck another stationary car. The driver of the overtaking vehicle died at the scene. The truck driver and two occupants of the third car sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police confirmed.
The speed limit on the section of Highway 8 where the crash occurred is 100 km/h. The investigation remains ongoing.
