A person was struck and trapped under a tram in central Oslo on Friday afternoon, emergency services reported. The individual, who according to witnesses slipped and fell under the vehicle, has been freed and taken to hospital.

Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet reports that emergency responders were called to Oslo’s Jernbanetorget square after a person was hit by a tram during rush hour. The victim was conscious but pinned beneath the tram before being rescued by crews.

“Witness accounts suggest the person slipped and fell under the tram,” operations manager Per-Ivar Iversen of the Oslo Police District told reporters. He confirmed the patient had been extricated and transported to hospital, with no immediately visible serious injuries.

Firefighters deployed five vehicles, including a rescue unit, to assist at the scene. Police urged bystanders to clear the area as crowds gathered. Tram services on lines 12 and 15 were rerouted via Stortorvet, while line 19 diverted through Nasjonalteateret to Bjørvika.
