Copenhagen roof fire now under control
A large roof fire at a residential building in Copenhagen’s Nordvest district is now under control, with no reported injuries, police confirmed on Friday afternoon.
The blaze broke out just before noon on Frederikssundsvej, where flames engulfed the roof of an apartment building, according to DR and Ritzau Scanpix. Copenhagen Police and the capital’s emergency services, Hovedstadens Beredskab, responded to the scene.
Over 100 residents from four stairwells were evacuated as a precaution, police stated in an update at 12:16 PM. By 1:43 PM, authorities confirmed the fire was contained, though firefighting efforts continued.
Jan Bendtsen, incident commander with Hovedstadens Beredskab, told TV 2 News that the fire had started in one apartment before spreading to the roof. While the cause remains under investigation, he ruled out further spread. Police warned that firefighters would remain on site for several more hours.
Road closures were implemented on Frederikssundsvej between Hulgårdsvej and Theklavej, as well as on Hulgårdsvej between Borups Allé and Frederikssundsvej. Residents in the area were advised to avoid smoke exposure by closing windows and doors. Police noted that smoke was drifting northward, creating potential traffic disruptions.
Earlier reports described the fire as intense and uncontrolled, with flames visibly consuming the roof. Authorities urged motorists to seek alternative routes due to ongoing closures.
The emergency call was received by Copenhagen Police at 11:48 AM.
