Finland’s oldest known person has died at 108
Finland’s oldest known resident, Vieno Nurmilaukas, has died at the age of 108, according to a report by Länsi-Saimaan Sanomat and confirmed by public broadcaster Yle.
Nurmilaukas, who lived her entire life in Savitaipale, southern Finland, passed away on 12 April, her obituary stated. Born on 23 September 1917, she was believed to be the last Finn born during the period of Russian rule, just months before Finland declared independence.
She worked as a farm mistress for most of her life, remaining in her hometown until her death. Her funeral took place on 2 May.
