The hand-operated Green Cup has gained attention this summer for its reusable plastic cups, successfully appealing to major event organizers. By the end of June, the company set a washing record by processing 100,000 cups in a week using their specialized machine, with the capacity to wash up to 50,000 cups daily.

“It’s great to finally be involved in large festivals. We were able to demonstrate that we have sufficient cup inventory and washing capacity,” said CEO Joar Löf from the driver’s seat of a delivery van filled with cups. The reusable cups have been used at monumental concerts at Finland’s Olympic Stadium, where branded cups were spotted during performances by Metallica and Bruce Springsteen.

Through their collaboration with French market leader Re-uz, Green Cup was able to procure these branded cups. August will see the stadium host at least two concerts by the band PMMP.

As more branded cups find their way into festivalgoers’ homes, the polypropylene cups have proven their durability in commercial dishwashers. This weekend, Coldplay will perform at the stadium, but Green Cup’s cups won’t be part of the setup. “I don’t know who has the contract for cups, but it’s certain that there are Coldplay cups made for the tour,” Löf noted.

The company, founded a few years ago, aims to reduce the use of disposable cups in Finland. Löf hopes this summer is just the beginning, forecasting a threefold increase in cup circulation at events next year. While beer and cider are still often served in cans, Löf senses a potential comeback for draft beverages due to upcoming packaging directives. The rising demand for cups is also reflected in their revenue, as they aim to reach a turnover of one million euros.
