Conversion Law Under Full Parliament Session Review Today
The exception law, commonly known as the ‘Conversion Law’, will enter its first hearing in the plenary session of the Finnish Parliament today. The Parliament’s Administrative Committee completed their report on the law on Monday. According to the committee’s chairman, Mauri Peltokangas, the report was approved by a vote of 15-2. The purpose of the Conversion Law is to combat instrumented entry into Finland through its eastern border. However, the proposal has been problematic as it contradicts Finland’s international human rights obligations and EU law.
