A residential building in Miðvágur on the Faroe Islands must be demolished after tests revealed dangerous substances including asbestos, heavy metals, and industrial chemicals, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The building, located on Leitisvegur, contains asbestos in its roofing along with PCB, mercury, lead, zinc, silver, and cadmium, according to authorities. The Faroese property agency Landsverk has now invited tenders for the demolition work, with waste to be transported to the IRF disposal site at Nýggjheiði near Kvívík.

No timeline for the demolition has been announced.
