A 30-year-old man described as one of the most significant figures in Sweden’s violent gang conflict has been formally charged, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.

Poya Shafie, a suspected leader in the Bronätverket network, stands accused of multiple violent crimes, weapons offences, and drug trafficking. Investigators allege he played a central role in the Foxtrot network’s attempts to dominate Sweden’s narcotics trade, clashing with rival factions like the Dalennätverket.

According to SVT’s crime reporter Diamant Salihu, Shafie was part of Foxtrot leader Rawa Majid’s inner circle, with images showing the pair socialising—including visits to Majid’s residence in Sulaymaniyya, Iraq, where they were photographed eating, wrestling, and boating together.

“He may be the single most important person charged so far in this entire conflict,” Salihu told SVT, calling the prosecution a critical signal from Swedish authorities to gang members operating from abroad. “This is a very strong message to those who leave the country and continue fuelling violence in Sweden.”

Majid, the alleged Foxtrot leader, remains in Iran, where SVT has previously reported his collaboration with the regime. While the network has been weakened by arrests, Salihu noted it remains active in violent crime and smuggling operations.
