Helsinki court detains 61-year-old man suspected of preparing serious violent crime

A 61-year-old man has been remanded in custody in Helsinki on suspicion of preparing a serious offence against life and health, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.

The Helsinki District Court ordered the detention on Sunday. According to the pre-trial investigation, the man—born in 1964—is suspected of planning the crime between 1 February and 29 April 2026 in Helsinki.

Prosecutors have until 18 June 2026 to formally bring charges in the case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details have not yet been disclosed.
