A Faroese fishing company has purchased the Icelandic trawler Ljósafell and renamed it Kúrberg, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Thor Fisheries, based in the Faroe Islands, confirmed the acquisition, stating the vessel will operate out of the capital, Tórshavn. Originally built in Japan in 1973, the trawler underwent major modifications in Poland in 1989 and 2007, including an extension of its hull.

The vessel was registered in the Faroe Islands last year and listed for sale in March with an estimated value of €1.1 million (around 8.2 million Faroese króna). Japan constructed numerous trawlers for Icelandic operators during the 1970s.
