Ferry cancelled after fault found in cooling water system
The ferry Sildberin was not cancelled due to weather conditions as initially reported, but because of a fault in its cooling water system, the acting director of Strandferðslan confirmed to Faroese broadcaster KVF.
Strandferðslan had announced the cancellation of Monday’s sailing to Skúvoy, citing weather as the reason—despite calm conditions. The move prompted local authorities to arrange an alternative vessel for stranded passengers.
“It is a misunderstanding and incorrect information from us that the sailing was cancelled due to weather,” said Dánjal Samuelsen, acting director of Strandferðslan. “Sildberin did not sail yesterday evening or today because a fault occurred in the cooling water pump on board.”
The incident follows a separate report that Skúvoy residents had chartered their own vessel after the ferry’s cancellation.
