Seismic activity increases on Reykjanes Peninsula raises eruption concerns in Iceland

Seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula has increased over recent weeks, raising concerns about a potential lava flow and even volcanic eruption within the next two weeks. The Icelandic Meteorological Office warns that the risk of damage in the town of Grindavík is significant, even if magma does not reach the surface.

This rise in seismic events, although notable, remains relatively low when compared to the activity preceding the last eruption. Ongoing magma accumulation and land uplift continue at a steady pace.

The Meteorological Office emphasizes that a lava flow without an eruption could still pose dangers and lead to harm in Grindavík. Residents and officials are urged to remain vigilant as the situation develops.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
