Faroese finance committee to review proposed fuel tax increase
The Faroese finance committee will meet Monday to assess the government’s proposal to raise the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel from 1 August, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Seven organisations have been invited to provide input, including the Faroese Nature and Environment Association, the Association for Cyclists and Other Vulnerable Road Users, the Tórshavn Workers’ Union, the Pensioners’ Association, the Car Dealers’ Association, oil companies Magn and Effo, and the Agricultural Council.
The Association for Cyclists and Other Vulnerable Road Users has previously submitted a consultation response advocating a temporary VAT exemption for electric bicycles.
The committee will also review plans for a new building at the patient hotel in Keypmannahavn. The minister for health and energy, along with representatives from the national hospital, have been summoned to the meeting.
