Late-season snow expected in northern Finland with over 10 centimetres possible
A late-winter weather shift will bring unstable and cooler conditions to Finland this week, with significant snowfall possible in Lapland, according to a forecast by Yle’s meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander.
Rain will spread across southern and eastern Finland on Monday, with temperatures around 10°C. Lohtander noted that the steady rainfall would benefit nature, as April has been drier than usual. Western and central regions will see sunshine, with temperatures potentially reaching 15°C, while northern areas remain dry with temperatures between 5°C and 10°C.
A low-pressure system arriving from the west on Tuesday will bring precipitation to northern Finland, shifting between rain, sleet, and snow. Driving conditions in Lapland are expected to deteriorate, with snow accumulations possibly exceeding 10 centimetres if most precipitation falls as snow. Central Finland will face strong wind warnings, with gusty conditions near Oulu. Southern and central regions will see temperatures drop below 10°C, with scattered showers possible.
By Wednesday, northern precipitation will ease, while southern Finland will experience sunshine and rising temperatures. Forecasts suggest a warming trend toward the weekend, with southern Finland potentially seeing temperatures climb above 15°C.
